Many thanks indeed to everyone who has contributed to this website, including:

  • All who have written history articles for the Walkern Journal over the past 40 years and who have contributed their memories or answered questions
  • Eleanor Waldock, who has patiently help transcribe so many of Walkern’s historic documents
  • David & Kate de Boinville who allowed Eleanor and I to transcribe many of the documents held at Walkern Hall
  • John Richardson who, 7 years ago, let me copy his collection of photographs and postcards of Walkern
  • Herts Archive and Local History for their help and advice
  • Chris Reynolds of the Herts Genealogy website
  • Peter Sinclair of the Sinclair Genealogy website

Great site. Looking forward to visiting your stand at the Walkern fair this weekend. Myself, Emma, Archie, Charlie and Monty moved to the village in April 2010. We live at The Grange by church end on the high street and would love to know a bit more about the history of our house. Have been scouring the internet for old pictures but no luck as yet.

This website is great! It’s really interesting already and the society has only just begun. Thank you to all those who have worked so hard to put the information on it. I especially loved the memories section. Those memories really bring the history to life. As a relative newcomer to the village, I’ll look forward to learning more about it as the society develops.

What a wonderful website.

I have really enjoyed reading the history.

I lived in Walkern for 25 years at the White Lion in Walkern, my parents Mike & Jenny ran the pub.

It was so lovely to see the memories of Marjorie, Joyce and Joan all whom I remember from growing up.

Well done, I look forward to the new information you will be adding.
