Photos of the unveiling of Walkern History Boards. A huge thank you to the many volunteers involved in this project, especially Paul Andrews (PJ Builders), Chris Windebanks (Ingenious Displays), Brian Brent, Dan and John who worked so hard to install the six Boards. Many thanks also to the good folk of Walkern in taking part in the unveilings, including Rev Mike Leverton, URC Elders Peter Knight & Mary Miller, Seema Chandarana of Walkern Stores, Nigel Bennett from Ardeley-Walkern Cricket Club, Steve Fraser & family from the White Lion, and Sarah & Nigel from Brewery Tearooms.

My grandfather, Percy Bennett, was born in Walkern May 14th 1890. He worked briefly as a bakers assistant before moving to London to join the Metropolitan Police where he spent the rest of his working life. His father Walter was killed while delivering ale from Wrights Brewery. He was a dray driver and fell off and was run over the neck by his dray on 9th August 1895. My wife and I visited Walkern in 2008 and stayed at the White Lion .
