Eva Savage: Half a century in Walkern School
Extract from an article in the May 1972 issue of the Walkern Journal

And who would have thought in these days of educational ?enlightenment? that during Eva Savage?s childhood the school starting age was not 5, not 4, but only 3 years; even that was not early enough for young Eva who, we are told, grew fed up with staying at home and started her own schooling at 2

Hi,
I attended Walkern Primary school for approximately two years from the age of 4 years old to six years old between 1946 and 1948. I do not remember much about the school, but I have always remembered that the name of my teacher was Miss Savage, probably because while in her class i reached the dizzy academic heights of being awarded a book prize for being the top pupil of the “Tip Top” class. I remember there being at least six children in the class! Alas, I have never soared so high again throughout my school years.
Is it still possible to obtain a copy of the May 1972 issue of the Walkern Journal
Thank you
Ann Batham
