Test Pit 18-4: White Lion

by janet on 27 July 2020

White Lion

Refreshments were on tap for our test pit in the garden behind the car park of the White Lion. The White Lion was an Elizabethan coaching inn, and the car park area was associated for centuries with a timber yard and with carpentry.

Although some items were found that could be linked to these trades, i.e. nails, glass from drinking vessels, clay pipe fragments, there were also several pieces of flint debitage (the waste from making flint tools).
