Test Pit 17-5: Walkern Gallery

Many thanks indeed to Stephen & Brenda for hosting our 5th test pit in their front garden at Walkern Gallery. The late 17th century house was, until the early 20th century, a small farm.

Highlights included several shards of Mediaeval pottery, notably a piece of Stamford Ware, one of the earliest forms of lead-glazed ceramics manufactured in England. It was produced in Stamford, Lincolnshire, between the 9th and 12th centuries.

We revisited the site in 2019…
