The Mission Hall
Cecil Beadle can recall – The Mission Hall off the High Street was started by Frank Hills, the postman and his wife who had come into the village as missionaries.

Frank and Mary Ann Hills were my great-grandparents. Mary Ann was still preaching at the mission well into her 80s. She came to Walkern as a travelling Methodist missionary, where she met the Hills family and fell in love with Frank. Shortly afterwards she left her missionary society to marry him. The charabanc contains members of the family including my grandfather, who used to bring me to Walkern when I was very young to visit Charlie Clements, his brother-in-law.
I found out last night that my grandad Cecil Beadle’s uncle Charlie Clements, married Ivy Hills.
I never realised the family connection to the Mission Hall. Ivy and Charlie are buried in the Walkern UR Chapel.
