Walkern, a parish in the hundred of Broadwater, county of |hertford, 4 ¾ miles (E by N) from Stevenage, containing 631 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeanery of Huntingdon, and dicese of Lincoln, rated in the King’s books at £20.1.10 ½, and in the patronage of the Provost and Fellows of King’s College Cambridge. The church, dedicated to St Mary, contains a curious monument of a Knight Templar [since shown not to be]. There is a place of worship for Independents. A fair for cattle is held on November 5th.
