Motor Accident near Church Lane

Saturday November 25th 1922, Walkern
(Newspaper article sent to the Walkern Journal by Lloyd Briscoe)

On Tuesday last week, a nasty accident occurred near Church Lane. A horse and cart belonging to Mr Arthur Gray, farmer, LuffenhaIl, was being led by a lad when G. Savage, aged 9, one of several boys near the cart, jumped out and ran towards Church Lane. Nearby, Howard Carter’s motor car was approaching, and it being foggy the car knocked the boy down. It carried him along for a short distance. Mr Howard Carter immediately pulled up and did all he could for the boy who was carried to the nurse’s cottage. The doctor was summoned and the boy was later taken to Hertford hospital. The boy’s legs were grazed and his shoulder badly hurt. His progress is said to be satisfactory
